Common questions about consolidation loans

Does consolidating loans pay off?

It pays off when your current credit has a higher rate than the new loan and you keep the same or a shorter term. Extend the term and the monthly cost falls but the total cost rises. Always calculate the total.

Can I consolidate loans with a payment remark?

Some of the lenders we compare make that possible, but the choice is smaller and the rate higher. A consolidation loan at a high rate can still be cheaper than several expensive credits. Calculate both.

What happens to my old cards and credit?

The bank often pays your old lenders directly. Then cancel the cards and credit. If they stay open with a limit, they often count as debt the next time you apply for a loan.

Can I include my mortgage?

No. A consolidation loan is an unsecured loan. The mortgage has a lower rate and should stay where it is.

How many credit checks will there be?

Through a broker normally one, however many banks reply. If you apply with several banks yourself, there is one per bank.
