About loans, rates and the rules in Sweden, and about how Kreddo works.

Common questions about loans, rates and Kreddo

Is Kreddo a bank or a loan broker?

Neither. Kreddo is a comparison service. We do not lend money, do not arrange loans and do not take applications. You always apply with the company itself.

Why do you show only some companies?

We compare only companies we have an agreement with, and say so at every list. There are more lenders on the market than the ones we show.

Who are the English pages for?

For people who live in Sweden and prefer English. They cover the same Swedish loans and cards as the Swedish site, in kronor and under Swedish law.

What does it cost to use Kreddo?

Nothing. We are paid by the company when someone continues through our links and applies or signs an agreement, but it never affects the order. That is decided by what the loan costs in total.

How many credit checks does a broker make?

Normally one. The broker makes one credit check and passes the information on to the banks. Apply directly with five banks and you get five checks instead, which can lower your creditworthiness.

What is the interest rate cap in 2026?

The nominal rate on consumer credit may not exceed the reference rate plus 20 percentage points. The reference rate is 2.00% in the second half of 2026, which gives a cap of 22.00%. Mortgages are exempt.

What does the cost cap mean?

Interest, fees, late-payment interest and collection costs may together never exceed the amount borrowed. Borrow SEK 30,000 and you can never owe more than SEK 60,000 in total.

Can I get a loan with a payment remark?

Yes, but the choice is smaller and the rate higher. Several of the brokers and lenders we compare still assess the application despite a payment remark (betalningsanmärkning), and they are listed on the page about loans with a payment remark.

Can I deduct the interest on a personal loan?

No. The tax deduction for interest on unsecured loans was removed from 1 January 2026. Interest on personal loans, credit cards and quick loans now costs you the full amount. Mortgages and other secured loans are not affected.

What is the difference between nominal and effective interest rate?

The nominal rate is the interest rate itself. The effective rate also includes the setup fee, notice fees and the fact that interest is added every month, converted to a yearly rate. Always compare the effective rate.

Can I repay the loan early?

Yes. You may always repay an unsecured loan early and pay interest only up to the day you repay. At a variable rate the lender may not charge a fee for it. At a fixed rate, interest compensation (ränteskillnadsersättning) may apply. You also have a 14-day right of withdrawal.

Does consolidating loans pay off?

It pays off when your current credit has a higher rate than the new loan and you keep the same or a shorter term. Extend the term and the monthly cost falls but the total cost rises. Always calculate the total.
